Crusader Swim Teams Earn Fourth at Sun Conference Championships

OCALA, Fla. – Both the men's and women's swim teams secured fourth-place finishes at the Sun Conference Championships, with the men tallying 507 points and the women totaling 382.
 
Women's Team Recap
The Lady Crusaders opened the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay as Grace Funck, Chloe Picon, Eszter Kardos, and Brooks Sipes posted a time of 1:47.
 
n individual events, Amabile Scabacino recorded a 5:19 in the 500 Free, while Funck and Picon turned in times of 2:11 and 2:15 in the 200 IM, respectively. The team added another strong relay performance in the 800 Free Relay, with Picon, Funck, Abigail Krot, and Kardos placing fourth in 7:56. The quartet of Scabacino, Chloe Lee, Sipes, and Bisma Khan followed with an 8:06.
 
The streak of fourth-place relay finishes continued in the 200 Free Relay, where Sipes, Kardos, Picon, and Funck finished in 1:39. Khan, Scabacino, Kelsey Shand, and Lee added a 1:42. Krot later posted a time of 4:41 in the 400 IM to take eighth place, and Kardos swam a 59.31 in the 100 Fly.
 
Picon led the way in the 100 Breaststroke with a fifth-place time of 1:06, while teammates Sipes and Shand added times of 1:07.16 and 1:07.80 to finish inside the top ten. Funck also delivered a fourth-place finish in the 100 Backstroke with a 57.83, and Scabacino followed in 1:02.
 
The 400 Medley Relay brought yet another fourth-place finish for Funck, Picon, Krot, and Sipes, who recorded 3:56. Scabacino, Shand, Kardos, and Lee added a 4:04.
 
In distance events, Krot and Kardos both finished inside the top ten in the 1650 Free with times of 18:23 and 18:30, while Victoria Murphy posted a 20:10. Funck and Scabacino turned in times of 2:07 and 2:13 in the 200 Backstroke. In the 200 Breaststroke, Sipes and Picon again placed inside the top ten with times of 2:26 and 2:28, with Shand finishing in 2:37. Kardos and Krot recorded times of 2:11 and 2:10 in the 200 Fly.
 
The women wrapped up their meet with another fourth-place relay finish, as Funck, Kardos, Picon, and Sipes clocked a 3:37 in the 400 Free Relay.
 
Men's Team Recap
The men opened competition with a podium finish in the 200 Medley Relay, where Yusuf Balaban, Hunter Boudreau, Nedas Giedraitis, and Adam Hossam placed third. The team of Matthew Hughes, Janos Szabo, Blaise Boyd, and Josiah Blankenship added a 1:34.
 
In the 500 Free, Miguel Leal finished fourth with a 4:35.54, just ahead of Braedan Jacobs, who placed sixth in 4:35.93. Balaban earned a podium spot in the 200 IM with a 1:49, and Hossam set a new school record in the 50 Free with a 20.53.
 
The 800 Free Relay team of Hossam, Szabo, Leal, and Jacobs took third with a 6:42, while Balaban, Blankenship, Boyd, and Giedraitis posted a 6:51. Another school record fell in the 200 Free Relay, as Hossam, Szabo, Boyd, and Giedraitis turned in a 1:23; Blankenship, Boudreau, Hughes, and Jacobs followed in 1:25.
 
Balaban earned a silver medal in the 400 IM, and Giedraitis took fifth in the 100 Fly with a 48.96. Hossam delivered a historic swim in the 200 Free, winning the event in 1:37 and setting a new Sun Conference Record. Szabo added a 1:40, and Jacobs posted a 1:42.
 
Boudreau added another impressive performance with a second-place finish in the 100 Breaststroke, setting a school record with a 53.40. Szabo followed with a 58.39. The 400 Medley Relay team of Hossam, Boudreau, Giedraitis, and Szabo also broke the school record with a 3:16 to take second, while Balaban, Joshua Pratt, Jacobs, and Boyd finished in 3:24.
 
Leal finished just shy of the podium in the 1650 Free with a 15:53, and Jacobs added a 16:03. Hughes posted a 2:09 in the 200 Backstroke, and in the 100 Free, Hossam and Szabo recorded times of 44.80 and 45.60.
 
One of the highlights of the meet came from Boudreau, who shattered the Sun Conference Record in the 200 Breaststroke with a 1:56—a time that now leads the NAIA this season and ranks as the second fastest in NAIA history.
 
Giedraitis earned a silver medal in the 200 Fly with a 1:48. Balaban narrowly missed the podium with a 1:49, while Leal posted a 1:56. The meet concluded with yet another school record in the 400 Free Relay, as Hossam, Szabo, Giedraitis, and Jacobs finished third in 3:00. Blankenship, Boyd, Boudreau, and Balaban followed with a 3:06.
