William Carey Cruises to Dual Meet Victory Over Loyola

BILOXI, Miss. – The William Carey University men's and women's swim teams delivered another commanding performance on Saturday, rolling past Loyola University in a dual meet at the Biloxi natatorium. Carey earned decisive victories on both sides, with the men winning 167–73 and the women securing a 176–45 victory.
 
The Lady Crusaders opened the meet with a statement, securing a one–two finish in the 400-yard Medley Relay. The relay squad of Grace Funck, Chloe Picon, Eszter Kardos, and Brooks Sipes took the win in 3:57, followed closely by Chloe Lee, Kelsey Shand, Bisma Khan, and Victoria Murphy, who clocked a 4:17.
 
Abby Krot highlighted the meet with a new school record in the 1650-yard Freestyle, posting an impressive 18:12. Teammate Amabile Scabacino captured second with a 19:03 finish. Kardos kept Carey's momentum rolling with a first-place swim in the 200-yard Freestyle (2:01), while Murphy added third (2:08).
 
Funck added another win in the 100-yard Backstroke (59.64), and the Lady Crusaders dominated the 100-yard Breaststroke, sweeping the top three spots behind Picon (1:06.02), Sipes (1:06.67), and Fia Martin (1:11). Krot and Lee then finished one–two in the 200-yard Butterfly with times of 2:10 and 2:20, respectively. The dominance continued with Khan's win in the 50-yard Freestyle and another sweep in the 100-yard Freestyle by Sipes, Picon, and Khan.
 
Funck and Scabacino claimed the top two positions in the 200-yard Backstroke, posting times of 2:10 and 2:17. Shand and Martin added another one–two finish in the 200-yard Breaststroke while Lee and Murphy placed second and third in the 500-yard Freestyle.
 
Kardos took first in the 100-yard Butterfly (59.62), followed by Khan in second (1:01), and Krot earned her second victory of the day with a 4:47 finish in the 400 IM.
 
The Lady Crusaders capped the meet the way they started it, claiming first in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay behind Khan, Funck, Lee, and Sipes, with Kardos, Scabacino, Shand, and Picon earning second.
 
The Crusader men were equally dominant, opening the meet with a victory in the 400-yard Medley Relay. The team of Yusuf Balaban, Hunter Boudreau, Nedas Giedraitis, and Janos Szabo finished in 3:21, with Carey's second relay squad taking third.
 
Braedan Jacobs claimed the first individual win of the afternoon for the Crusaders, touching in 17:17 in the 1650-yard Freestyle. Carey then swept the top two spots in the 200-yard Freestyle behind Adam Hossam and Szabo while Blankenship finished just outside the top three.
 
Balaban secured the 100-yard Backstroke win (51.31), and the 100-yard Breaststroke produced another one–two finish behind Boudreau (54.66) and Giedraitis (57.57). Vieira and Vincent Diecidue repeated the feat in the 200-yard Butterfly, finishing first and second. Hossam delivered one of the standout swims of the day, setting a new school record in the 50-yard Freestyle with a 20.66, while Boyd claimed second in 21.24. Boyd added a first-place finish in the 100-yard Freestyle, with Blankenship finishing third.
 
Boudreau earned another win in the 200-yard Backstroke (1:57), while Szabo took first in the 200-yard Breaststroke (2:09) with Pratt finishing third. Vieira and Jacobs added yet another one–two finish in the 500-yard Freestyle, and Giedraitis secured the top spot in the 100-yard Butterfly (49.80).
 
Balaban picked up another individual victory in the 400-yard IM (4:05). The Crusaders closed the meet with a dominant showing in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, as Boyd, Boudreau, Szabo, and Hossam claimed first in 1:24, followed by the squad of Giedraitis, Blankenship, Jacobs, and Hughes in third
 
Both teams return to action on Wednesday, February 4, when they travel to Ocala, Florida, to compete in the Sun Conference Championships at the Florida Aquatics Swimming & Training facility.
