MOBILE, Ala.- the William Carey Women's Tennis team captured the SSAC Tournament Championship earlier today with a 4-1 victory over Loyola (New Orleans). The Lady Crusaders earned a berth in the championship match after a 5-0 victory over Blue Mountain Christian yesterday in the semi-finals. Carey, the number one overall seed, won the SSAC Regular Season Championship just over a week ago. Today's win puts the Lady Crusader overall record at 16-1 on the season.
The Lady Crusaders picked up the doubles point with a 6-0 win from
Victoria Vieten and
Isabella Lechuga. The other duo to win their doubles match came from a 6-3 win from
Li-Hsien Lin and
Malak Abarkane.
Carey got singles wins from Vieten (6-0, 6-2),
Jian Kang (6-3, 6-1),
Tiffany Chang (6-1, 6-2), and
Li-Hsien Lin (7-5, 6-2).
The Lady Crusaders, ranked 5
th in the NAIA, now await their postseason assignment at the NAIA National Championship, to be hosted in Mobile, Alabama. The tournament will be held starting on May 12
th and will run through the 16
th. The selection show where the Crusaders will learn of their next opponent will take place on April 28
th.
