Lady Crusaders Fall in SSAC Championship Match

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The William Carey Women's Tennis Team fell 4-2 to Middle Georgia State in the championship match of the SSAC Women's Tennis Championship.
 
The Lady Crusaders advanced to the finals after a 4-0 win over UT-Southern on Wednesday and a thrilling 4-3 victory over Loyola University on Thursday.
 
Against the Firehawks, Carey left little doubt, quickly picking up the point at doubles with wins at #1 & #2 doubles.  The Lady Crusaders would then secure the win with Sunny Logan winning 6-1, 6-1 at #5 singles, Li-Hsien Lin winning 6-1, 6-2 at #3 singles, and Nina Westkamp winning 6-0, 6-1 at #6 singles.
 
Against the Wolfpack, LU secured the first point with wins at #1 & #2 doubles.  Loyola would go on to take the point at #1 singles before Tiffany Chang picked up the point for Carey at #2 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
 
The Wolfpack would get the win at #3 singles but Isabella Lechuga would get the point at #4 singles to keep WCU in the hunt.  Logan would pick up the win at #5 singles, winning 6-3, 6-4 to tie the match at three all.  With the match on the line, Westkamp would send the Lady Crusaders into the finals, battling to a 6-3, 7-5 win at #6 singles.
 
In the finals, Carey picked up the doubles point to take the early lead but could not find the same the same magic in singles, as the Knights erased the deficit and then took the lead with wins at #5 & #3 singles. 
MGA would take a 3-1 lead with a win at #6 singles but Tiffany Chang would get WCU back within one point with a 6-1, 7-6 win at #2 singles.  However, Middle Georgia would clinch the match with a three set win at #1 singles.
