Crusaders Close Strong to Finish Sixth at Carey Collegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – In a deep and competitive field featuring multiple NAIA Top 25 programs, the WCU men's golf team turned in rounds of 295, 290, and 282 to finish sixth overall at the Carey Collegiate.
 
The tournament opened with 36 holes on day one. Ongsa Booncharn led the Crusaders in the first round, carding an even-par 69 to sit in a tie for 11th. Ethan Holway followed with a two-over 73, while Lorenzo Ligabue added a 75.
 
In round two, Chance Elston highlighted the team's performance with an even-par 71, improving his first-round score by five strokes. Ligabue also made a jump, lowering his score by three strokes. Booncharn recorded a two-over-par round, while Holway turned in a three-over 74.
 
The Crusaders carried that momentum into the final round, climbing three spots on the leaderboard. Booncharn delivered his best round of the tournament with a one-under 70, finishing 19th overall. Holway made one of the biggest moves of the day, jumping 11 spots after posting a two-under 69. Ligabue added a strong finish of his own with a one-under 70.
 
William Carey returns to action on Monday, March 16, traveling to Muscle Shoals, Ala., for the FireHawk Invitational hosted by UT Southern at the RTJ Golf Trail at The Shoals.
