DECATUR, Ala. – William Carey and No. 13 Lindsey Wilson battled to a 1-1 draw Sunday evening at the Jack Allen Soccer Complex.
The Lady Crusaders (2-1-2) opened the scoring in the first half and carried a one-goal advantage into the break before the Blue Raiders found the equalizer in the 58th minute.
The two sides played an evenly contested first half, with each team generating a handful of scoring opportunities. William Carey struck first despite the limited chances, taking the lead on a set piece.
Boo Mills sent a corner kick to the back post, where
Sara Aguirre connected on the finish to give the Lady Crusaders a 1-0 lead.
The remainder of the half saw both teams continue to push forward, but the Lady Crusaders carried their 1-0 advantage into the break.
Lindsey Wilson found the equalizer shortly after halftime. In the 58th minute, a scramble for a loose ball inside the penalty area resulted in the ball rolling to the edge of the box, where Norka Fergusson capitalized to level the match at 1-1.
Both teams continued to press for the go-ahead goal throughout the remainder of the contest, but neither side could find the decisive breakthrough as the match ended in a draw.
The Lady Crusaders return to action on Thursday, Sept. 10, when they open conference play against Brewton-Parker. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Danny Owens Field.
