HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey Lady Crusaders dominated from the opening whistle and never looked back, rolling to an 8-0 victory over Brewton-Parker on Thursday afternoon at Danny Owens Field.
Carey wasted little time getting on the board. Just one minute into the match,
Kayla Martin drove into the 18-yard box and delivered a perfectly weighted pass across the middle.
Linda Mustered redirected the ball with one touch to a wide-open
Mia Encinia, who buried her shot in the back of the net for the early 1-0 advantage.
The Lady Crusaders doubled their lead eight minutes later.
Paloma Paris sparked the attack with consecutive shots, the second rattling off the crossbar.
Sara Aguirre was in the right place at the right time, collecting the rebound and calmly slotting her shot just inside the post to make it 2-0.
Carey continued to apply pressure, extending its lead in the 16th minute.
Raquel Diaz found Mustered inside the box, and the junior made a move toward goal before finishing her chance to push the advantage to 3-0.
The offense remained relentless throughout the first half. In the 29th minute,
Raquel Batalla Royo intercepted a Brewton-Parker pass and quickly sent Martin streaking into the attacking third. Martin raced past a defender and fired a shot inside the post to make it 4-0.
Five minutes later, Martin and Royo reversed roles. Martin's pass into the attacking third was partially blocked, but the ball fell directly to Royo, who wasted no time finishing the opportunity to give the Lady Crusaders a commanding 5-0 lead heading into halftime.
Carey maintained control throughout the second half, overwhelming the Barons with a 29-1 advantage in shots and placing 13 attempts on target. Despite the sustained pressure, Brewton-Parker kept the Lady Crusaders off the scoreboard until the closing stages.
The floodgates opened again in the 80th minute, as Paris found the back of the net to make it 6-0. Aguirre added her second goal of the match shortly afterward, and Sabrina Ramos Camatta capped the scoring in the 85th minute to give Carey its final 8-0 margin.
The Lady Crusaders controlled possession throughout the closing minutes and secured the shutout victory.
WCU returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Thomas University in SSAC play. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Danny Owens Field.
