DALTON, Ga. – The William Carey women's soccer team cruised to a 6-0 victory over Dalton State College on Sunday afternoon.
he Lady Crusaders controlled the match from start to finish, outshooting Dalton State 34-6 and placing 20 shots on goal. William Carey generated 21 shots in the opening half alone, with 11 on target, and turned that pressure into a 3-0 halftime advantage.
William Carey broke through in the 11th minute when
Luana Falconeri collected the ball on the outside, cut toward the middle, and fired a shot into the top corner of the net for the game's first goal.
Just three minutes later,
Linda Mustered doubled the lead, giving the Lady Crusaders a 2-0 advantage in the 14th minute.
After controlling possession throughout the remainder of the half, Carey added a third goal in the 39th minute when
Raquel Batalla Royo struck a perfectly placed shot from the edge of the box into the bottom corner, sending the Crusaders into halftime with a comfortable lead.
The offensive momentum continued after the break as William Carey created nine additional shots on goal and found the net three more times.
Mustered recorded her second goal of the match in the 55th minute to extend the lead to 4-0. Three minutes later,
Susan De Souza Santos headed home a cross at the back post to make it 5-0.
The final goal of the afternoon came in the 63rd minute when
Paloma Paris and Mustered combined to set up
Kayla Martin in the attacking third. Martin finished the opportunity with a shot just beneath the crossbar to cap the scoring at 6-0.
William Carey returns to action on Thursday, October 1, when the Lady Crusaders host Wesleyan College at Danny Owens Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
