Lady Crusaders Roll Past Wesleyan College

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The top-ranked William Carey University women's soccer team delivered a dominant performance Thursday afternoon at Danny Owens Field, defeating Wesleyan College 14-0.

The Lady Crusaders wasted little time establishing control. After being taken down inside the penalty area in the fifth minute, Luana Falconeri converted the ensuing penalty kick to give Carey an early 1-0 advantage.

William Carey continued to press forward throughout the opening half and doubled its lead in the 21st minute. Falconeri found Linda Mustered unmarked inside the box and Mustered calmly finished the opportunity to make it 2-0.

Just two minutes later, Mustered struck again, firing a shot from the edge of the box into the top corner beyond the reach of the goalkeeper to extend the lead to 3-0.

The Lady Crusaders added to their advantage in the 29th minute on an own goal before Falconeri tallied her second goal of the match in the 34th minute, pushing the lead to 5-0.

Sara Aguirre joined the scoring moments later, finishing off a shot attempt by Paloma Paris. Paris then found the back of the net in the 37th minute and added another goal one minute later as Carey carried an 8-0 lead into halftime.

William Carey picked up right where it left off after the break. Sabrina Ramos Camatta headed home a corner kick in the 57th minute to make it 9-0, and Paris followed shortly thereafter to complete her hat trick.

In the 65th minute, Boo Mills delivered a perfectly placed cross that found the head of Kayla Martin, extending the Lady Crusaders' lead to 11-0.

The offensive onslaught continued as Paris tapped in a cross from Aguirre for her fourth goal of the afternoon. In the 78th minute, Aguirre served a corner kick into the box where Sophie Magee headed the ball down to Camatta, who finished with a one-touch strike to add another goal to the tally.

The final goal came in the 88th minute when Maddie Davis sent a brilliant cross into the middle of the box. Paris rose to meet it and headed home her fifth goal of the match, putting the finishing touches on the 14-0 victory.

William Carey returns to action Saturday, October 3, when it hosts Abraham Baldwin in SSAC play. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Danny Owens Field, weather permitting.
