OAKVILLE, Ala. – The William Carey University women's cross country team captured the team championship at the Firehawk Invitational on Friday, while the Crusader men earned a runner-up finish in a strong showing for both squads.
 
The Lady Crusaders totaled 29 points to take first place, while the men's team finished second overall with 57 points.
 
Kristina Stojanovic paced the Women's team with a second-place finish in the 6K race, crossing the line in 22:37 and finishing just one second behind the individual champion. Sydney Moudy added a third-place finish, while Virginia Tirado recorded a top-five performance by placing fifth overall.
 
Maria Tirado claimed seventh place with a time of 23:41, and Hannah Mitchell finished 12th in 24:28. Macy Robertson rounded out the Lady Crusaders' lineup with a time of 24:49.
 
On the men's side, Matthew McGuire led the Crusaders with a third-place finish in the 8K race after posting a time of 25:36. Luke Skinner secured a top-five finish, placing fifth overall.
 
Nate Bread finished 17th with a time of 29:18, while Julius Giller recorded a time of 30:34. Niklas Moilanen followed closely behind, crossing the finish line in 30:40.
 
William Carey returns to action on Friday, Oct. 16, when both squads travel to Clinton, Miss., to compete in the Watson Classic hosted by Mississippi Christian.
