DALTON, Ga. – The William Carey University men's soccer team returned to the win column Sunday afternoon, defeating RV Dalton State College 1-0 to snap a two-game skid.
The Crusaders controlled much of the action throughout the first half but were unable to find a breakthrough. William Carey generated two shots on target while the defense limited the Road Runners to no shots on frame, resulting in a scoreless tie at halftime.
Carey continued to dictate play for stretches of the second half, and its persistence was rewarded in the 71st minute.
Souleymane Balde scored the match's lone goal, converting a scoring opportunity created by
Enzo Galli and Horace Danitanga, who each earned assists on the play.
The Crusaders' defense once again proved to be the difference. A strong collective effort from the back line, combined with another solid performance from goalkeeper
Yago Darub, secured the clean sheet as William Carey preserved the 1-0 advantage through the final whistle.
William Carey returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 1, when they travel to Conway, Ark., to take on Central Baptist. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
