Crusaders Blank Mustangs 6-0

CONWAY, Ark. – The William Carey University men's soccer team delivered a dominant performance Thursday night, defeating Central Baptist 6-0 in road action.

The Crusaders controlled the match from the opening whistle, maintaining possession throughout much of the contest while turning in a stellar defensive effort. William Carey held the Mustangs without a shot for the entire match and carried the momentum offensively from start to finish.

Carey opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Miguel Cardona connected with Souleymane Balde in the attacking third for the match's first goal. Just six minutes later, Balde teamed up with Enzo Galli for his second goal of the half to double the advantage and give the Crusaders a 2-0 lead.

The Crusaders continued to dictate possession for the remainder of the first half but were unable to add to the scoreline before taking their two-goal lead into halftime.

After a slower start to the second half, William Carey broke the match open in the 65th minute. Fernando Pirry found the back of the net to make it 3-0 before Daniel Mulero added another goal in the 72nd minute.

The scoring continued just one minute later when Diego Sammur extended the lead to 5-0. Mario Camacho capped the offensive outburst in the 76th minute, converting a setup from Pirry to complete the 6-0 victory.

The Crusader defense remained in control throughout the night, holding Central Baptist without a single shot while securing the shutout.

William Carey returns to action on Thursday, October 8, when it hosts Point University in conference play. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Danny Owens Field.
