MONTGOMERY, Ala. – William Carey delivered a dominant performance Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 7-0 Southern States Athletic Conference victory over Faulkner University.
The Lady Crusaders struck early when
Boo Mills opened the scoring in the seventh minute. After intercepting a pass from the Faulkner goalkeeper, Mills unleashed a left-footed shot from 20 yards out that sailed into the top corner of the net.
Following a nearly two-hour lightning delay, William Carey quickly regained its momentum.
Sophie Magee sent a through ball from the corner to
Mia Encinia inside the six-yard box. Encinia then delivered a clever backheel pass to
Raquel Batalla Royo, who tapped it in to double the Lady Crusaders' lead just 15 minutes into the match.
William Carey continued to control the attack throughout the first half. In the 37th minute,
Alba Aguado headed home a free kick from
Raquel Diaz to extend the advantage to 3-0 heading into halftime.
The offensive surge carried into the second half. Ten minutes after the restart,
Kayla Martin rattled the crossbar with a shot attempt, but
Sara Aguirre was in position to knock in the rebound and make it 4-0. Moments later, Magee added her second assist of the afternoon, finding
Linda Mustered, who tucked her shot just inside the post to push the lead to 5-0.
The Lady Crusaders showed no signs of slowing down.
Ava Gumpert capitalized on a loose ball in the penalty area and scored in the 72nd minute, increasing the margin to 6-0.
Paloma Paris completed the scoring in the 87th minute, finishing a perfectly placed pass from Magee for William Carey's seventh and final goal of the match.
William Carey returns to action Friday, Sept. 25, when they travel to Marietta, Georgia, for an SSAC matchup against Life University. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
