MOBILE, Ala. – The William Carey University women's soccer team secured its third conference victory of the season Thursday evening with a 2-0 road win over the University of Mobile.
The Lady Crusaders controlled the match from the outset, setting the tempo and keeping pressure on the Rams throughout the opening half. William Carey dominated possession and created numerous scoring opportunities, outshooting Mobile 13-1 before halftime.
The breakthrough came in the 26th minute when
Mia Encinia found the back of the net to give the Lady Crusaders a 1-0 advantage. Carey continued to press forward for the remainder of the half, generating several quality chances but ultimately took a one-goal lead into the break.
William Carey maintained its momentum in the second half, once again controlling play and limiting Mobile's opportunities. The Rams managed to put two shots on goal, but goalkeeper
Alicia Garwood made key saves to preserve the shutout and keep the Lady Crusaders in front.
With time winding down, Carey added an insurance goal in the 80th minute off the foot of Linda Musterd to extend the lead to 2-0, putting the match out of reach and securing the conference road victory.
William Carey returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 19, when the Lady Crusaders travel to Montgomery, Ala., to face Faulkner University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
