MOBILE, Ala. – The William Carey men's soccer team battled the University of Mobile to a scoreless draw Thursday night.
Both teams struggled to generate clear scoring opportunities in a tightly contested first half. The Crusaders recorded one shot on target, while the Rams managed two shots on frame. Strong defensive play on both sides prevented either team from finding a breakthrough as the match remained scoreless heading into halftime.
The second half brought increased offensive pressure from both teams, particularly William Carey. The Crusaders put six shots on target over the final 45 minutes, compared to two for Mobile, but neither side could solve the opposing defense. Goalkeepers and defenders alike stood firm throughout the match, preserving the deadlock deep into the contest.
William Carey nearly found the game-winner in the closing moments. With less than a minute remaining in regulation,
Souleymane Balde rose to meet a cross and sent a header toward goal. However, the Mobile goalkeeper made another crucial save to keep the ball out of the net and secure the scoreless draw.
William Carey returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 19, when it travels to Montgomery, Ala., for an SSAC matchup against Faulkner University. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
