WCU T&F Posts Strong Performances at Commodore Challenge and Samford Open

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey University Track & Field programs continued their impressive indoor season over the weekend as both squads turned in standout results at the Commodore Challenge in Nashville, Tenn., and the Samford Open in Birmingham, Ala.
 
Jaylyn Session set the tone with a sixth-place finish in the 200m, clocking a 21.89. Teammate Jovel Madourie followed with a 12th-place effort in the 200m and a 17th-place finish in the 400m.
 
In the sprints, Barnabas Aggerh led the way with a dominant showing in the 60m, taking the top spot in 6.57. Session added a fifth-place finish in the same event. In the field events, Royan Walters delivered a runner-up performance in the long jump invite, posting a mark of 7.58m.
 
The Crusaders wrapped up the meet with strong results in the jumps, as Tavian Johnson and Jamal Martin tied for 11th in the high jump at 1.83m. Walters added an eighth-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 14.63m.
 
William Carey continued its momentum in Birmingham with more competitive showings across the board.
 
In the sprints, Dejean Francees and Quinjerius delivered times of 22.12 and 22.26, respectively, in the 200m. Distance standout Julius Giller clocked a 1:57 in the 800m, while Luke Skinner recorded a time of 4:23 in the Mile. The highlight of the men's track events came from Matthew McGuire, who claimed second place in the 5000m with a time of 15:07.
 
The Crusaders shined in the field events as well, with Avery Abram taking first place in the high jump after clearing 2.10m. Jor'Dyn Payne added a mark of 1.84m. Charles Wilson closed out the meet with a seventh-place finish in the long jump and a third-place showing in the triple jump, leaping 14.48m.
 
The Lady Crusaders turned in a strong slate of performances, highlighted by multiple top-ten finishes.
 
In the sprints, Tyeese Smith led the women's squad with a fourth-place finish in the 60m, posting a time of 7.62. Ja'Niya McDonald added a top-ten finish in the 200m (25.44), while Jennifer Ezeoha recorded a 58.64 in the 400m.
 
On the distance side, Hannah Mitchell ran a 2:32 in the 800m, and Kristina Stojanovic earned a top finish in the Mile with a time of 5:07. The 4x440 relay team of Ezeoha, Maria Schroeder, Aubrey Johnson, and Stojanovic capped the track events with a fifth-place finish in 4:02.
 
In the field events, Zaniyah Wilson cleared 1.60m for fourth in the high jump. Kerrishma Williams added an eighth-place finish in the high jump and later placed fourth in the long jump with a 5.50m effort. Natalee Dillon followed with a 5.05m jump to finish just outside the top ten.
 
Wilson also claimed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.72m, while Ciearra Gibson wrapped up the women's field events with a 10.54m throw in the shot put.
 
The Crusaders return to action on January 31 as they travel to Gainesville, Fla., to compete in the Celebration Pointe Indoor Classic.
