Lady Crusaders Blitz ABAC in Dominant 84–51 Victory

TIFTON, Ga. - William Carey women's basketball opened fast and never looked back Saturday afternoon, racing to an 84–51 road win at Abraham Baldwin inside the Fillie Dome.

"Good showing today," said Head Coach Jessica Garriga. "We executed on both sides of the ball and won the boards. Love seeing all the pieces start to come together as we move into conference play."

Three different Lady Crusaders set the tone early, staking WCU with a 9–0 start and midway through Brooklyn Cuevas pushed the lead to 12-3 with her second three of the quarter. The offense attack continued from there and with her third three, Cuevas had made it a 21-9 cushion. William Carey closed the period with a 6–0 burst highlighted by a driving finish from Alyssa Hillard for a 25–9 lead.

The second quarter opened with a steal and layup by Shakiria Chaney for ABAC and from there it was a series of both teams trading baskets. Abraham Baldwin found moments of rhythm in the second quarter behind Reese Riddle and Shakiria Chaney, narrowing the gap to 35–23 in the final minute before Hillard's late layup sent the Crusaders to the locker room up 37–23.

The third quarter belonged to the Lady Crusaders' sharp shooters. Sherer drilled a corner three at 9:00, Cuevas splashed from the wing at 8:08 and again at 7:06, and Corpuz added a triple at 6:18 as the lead ballooned past 20. A Corpuz runner at 5:31 and a Sherer three at 5:09 punctuated a dominant stretch that sent Carey into the fourth up 62–35.

There was no letup down the stretch. Leah Sutton sliced in for back-to-back buckets early in the fourth, Cuevas converted a steal into a layup at 5:19, and Doyle added consecutive finishes under five to push the margin beyond 30. Presley Thompson's mid-range jumper and Bailey Devall's late layup sealed the final tally.

Brooklyn Cuevas led the offense with 17 points with Meyah Doyle adding 13 points. Shaneal Corpuz finished with 11 points while Leah Sutton had 10 points.

Carey is back in action as they return home to take on Brewton-Parker College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm at Clinton Gym.
