HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey Men's & Women's Tennis teams returned to action with a pair 7-0 victories over conference foe Blue Mountain Christian Friday afternoon at the Crusader Tennis Complex.
"Both teams played well," said Head Coach
Marc Lux. "I liked our focus and energy throughout all the matches. We are definitely heading in a good direction and getting better as a whole team. Time to get a day of rest and prepare for two top 10 matches vs Xavier at home on Monday 1:00 pm."
The Lady Crusaders wasted no time on setting the tone early, sweeping all three doubles matches to take the 1-0 lead.
Isabella Lechuga started things in singles winning in straight sets 6-0 with
Victoria Vieten also taking the point at #1 singles in straight sets 6-0. The rest of the singles matches all saw 6-0 and 6-1 victories from
JiAn Kang,
Malak Abarkane, and
Li-Hsien Lin to complete the sweep.
It was much of the same for the guys, as they followed suit, sweeping all three doubles matches for the first point. In singles,
David Bagrinovski started things with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #6 singles along with
Artur Ibragimov taking the point at #3.
Phil Louis Steinbichler also won 6-0, 6-0 with
Islam Orynbassar winning 6-2, 6-2,
Matt Shearer winning 6-0, 6-3, and
Jean Nicolas Leblanc making it 7-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at #5.
