Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Crusaders Crush Southeastern Baptist

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey Men's Basketball team left little doubt Tuesday night at Clinton Gym with an 86-61 victory over Southeastern Baptist.

"Always tough to play a non-conference game in February, but our guys did enough good things to pull out the win," said Head Coach Steve Knight. "It was a great atmosphere in Clinton Gym, and I was impressed by our crowd. Thanks to all who came by to watch. We will need the gym packed next Thursday against Mobile on Senior night. I am proud of our accomplishments this season. However, we have a lot left in front of us to prepare for."

Both teams got off to a slow start, as there were a combined eight points scored over the first five minutes of the game. The Chargers opened the scoring in the game with Carey getting on the board on back-to-back baskets by Randarius Hughes and Dylan Brumfield.

After both teams traded baskets, five different Crusaders combined for a 13-4 run to make it 21-10 with under ten minutes to play. Over the next few minutes, Carey maintained the double-digit lead with Cam Brown draining three consecutive three pointers to push the lead to 34-17.

It was much of the same over the final minutes of the half, as the Crusaders pushed their lead to as many as 25 points before taking a 47-24 lead into the break. For the half, Carey shot over 44% from the floor and 33% from three-point range while out rebounding the Chargers 26-15.

Back-to-back threes by Brown opened the second half to make it a 29-point advantage WCU. Over the next six minutes things remained unchanged but with Carey leading 62-36, Jamar Jenkins, Javeon Gordon, and Ankerion Gross all hit three pointers to push the Crusader lead to their largest in the game at 35 and they never looked back on their way to victory.

Cam Brown led four Crusaders in double figures with 20 points with Jamar Jenkins finishing with 14 points. Zandon Haralson added 13 points while Randarius Hughes finished with 12 points.

Carey is back in action Thursday, February 20, as they take on Mobile in SSAC action. Play is set to begin at 7:30 pm at Clinton Gym.
