Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Crusaders Roll Past Barons

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The Crusaders picked up a routine win over Brewton Parker on Thursday evening as they knocked off the Barons 3-1.

Carey got their offense going early as they found themselves ahead in the 13th minute. Marc Guerrero sent a long ball over the top from deep that found the BPC defender who set the ball back to his keeper. Diego Alejandro Montes Carrera, under pressure from Santiago Molina, attempted to clear the ball but struck it straight off his own defender and saw it trickle into his own goal.

BPC attempted to get back into the game and were given the opportunity when the ref pointed to the spot in the 33rd minute. Lazar Milosavljevic, in possession inside the Crusader box, attempted to shift the ball onto his right foot as he was brought down. Ilyas Nazih stepped up, attempting to get the better of Carey keeper Jamie Barry, but found his effort well saved as Barry made a sprawling save to his bottom left corner.

The Barons did find their equalizer in the 62nd minute. Andre Xavier sent a ball over the top for Nazih, who brought the ball under control and fired past Barry, making sure he wouldn't be kept off the score sheet this time.

WCU then went on the offensive following the BPC goal, peppering Carrera's goal and winning a number of corners. Carey's offensive pressure paid off as they found what proved to be the game winner in the 71st minute. Milos Stajkovic sent an inswinging corner that found the head of Dennis Hamzic who flicked the ball on at the near post and into the back of the net.

Six minutes later Carey found their insurance goal and ensured they'd be leaving Mount Vernon with a win. Stajkovic played a short corner to Joshua Salas before making the overlap and getting the ball back. Stajkovic sent a deep cross into the back post that found Lewis Green who rose highest to head over Camacho in the goal. The recovering defender attempted to clear the ball off the line but the assistant referee deemed the ball had crossed the line and the goal was given.

The Crusaders are back in action Saturday, October 4th as they travel to Thomasville, GA. to take on Thomas University. The game is scheduled to get underway at 3PM CST.
