HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey Women's Basketball left little to doubt, as they defeated Life University 68-51 Thursday evening at Clinton Gym.
 
Carey wasted no time, as three different Lady Crusaders combined on an 8-2 run three minutes into the first quarter. From there both teams traded shots but with two minutes left, WCU closed the quarter on a 6-2 run to take a seven-point lead. For the quarter, the Lady Crusaders outshot the Running Eagles 50% to 29%.
 
Life cut the deficit to four to open the second quarter after converting three free throw attempts, but Carey responded quickly, as Shaneal Corpuz and Kolten Blakeney scored five straight points to make it 23-14 after one minute of play.
 
From there, the Lady Crusader offense was firing on all cylinders, as they pulled away to a 39-21 lead at the break. Carey improved their shooting from the first quarter to 61.5% while the defense held Life to just 18% shooting from the floor.
 
It was much of the same in the third and fourth quarters, as Carey put the game away for good, leading by as many as 31 points on their way to victory. For the game, the Lady Crusaders shot 49% from the floor while out rebounding the Running Eagles 41-29. Carey also picked up 23 points off turnovers to Life's eleven.
 
Kolten Blakeney, Rose Warren, and Shaneal Corpuz all finished with ten points with Blakeney also pulling down ten rebounds.
 
Carey is back in action Saturday, February 1, as they take on Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in SSAC action. Play is set to begin at 12:00 pm at Clinton Gym.
