PULASKI, Tenn. – In a match up that saw #3 William Carey take on #5 UT-Southern, there would be no winner, as the game ended at 2-2.
The Firehawks dealt the first blow just six minutes in, as they drove down the left side of the field and played the ball into the middle of the box where Keito Ido was waiting and took aim, however
Anita Gudmundsdottir was there for the save. The free ball found its way to an open UT-Southern player who again played it to Ido and this time she was able to knock it past Gudmundsdottir.
The lead was short lived, as
Esalenna Galekhutle drove up the middle of the field six minutes later and found a wide-open
Karen Vilau inside the 18-yard box who then fired it past the UT-Southern keeper to even things at one. The game remained tied until the 29
th minute. That is when the Firehawks retook the lead, as Jessica Glassman played the ball to just in front of the goal to Maclani Michael who chipped it in to give UT-Southern the lead heading into the break.
Coming out of the break, Carey found the equalizer in the 53
rd minute, as
Rocio Fernandez played a brilliant ball into the box off a corner kick to
Valeria Barajas who headed it home from fifteen yards outs to tie the game once again. From there the UT-Southern defense was on lock down, as Carey could not capitalize on five corner kicks and was only able to get one more shot on goal ultimately ending the game in a draw
Carey is back in action Saturday, September 21, as they head to Blue Mountain, Miss. to take on Blue Mountain Christian in SSAC play. Kick-off is slated for 1:00 pm.
