Lady Crusaders Rout Blue Mountain

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – The William Carey offense were firing on all cylinders this afternoon as they broke their own school record for goals scored in a game. The Lady Crusaders ran riot as they hit the Toppers for 17 goals without reply.

The win was highlighted with two Crusaders picking up hattricks and one picking up a hattrick of assists. The ladies also had three girls pick up braces and three girls grabbed two assists each.

Averaging a goal every 5.3 minutes, the Lady Crusaders notched their first goal a little over 3 minutes. Christina Salmon opened the scoring with her first of five goals on the afternoon. Karen Vilau drove down the left-hand side before pulling it back to Salmon to coolly finish and set the Crusaders on their way.

Salmon turned provider next for Alyssia Davis to double the lead not 4 minutes later. Salmon then scored two more to complete her hattrick after just 13 minutes following assists from Rocio Fernandez and Esalenna Galekhutle. Argentina Estrada was the next Crusader to record an assist thanks to a Salmon finish as she notched her 4th goal in 17 minutes.

Within 17 minutes the Crusaders were 5-0 up and showed little signs of letting up. Lesley Vazquez and Galekhutle the next Crusaders to put their names on the scoresheet before Virginia Mesa's first two goals of the game would see out the half. Mesa ran onto a deep long ball from Meghan Romines, cut inside past the defender and curled the ball into the far corner. Mesa then converted a penalty after a foul on Valeria Barajas to see out the half and send the Crusaders 9-0 up at the break.

If you thought the Crusaders would just sit back in the second half and see out the game you'd be horribly wrong. Carey came out and nearly replicated their first half display by notching another 8 in the second half.

A little over 60 second on the second half clock and Salmon would grab her 5th and final goal of the afternoon. Galekhutle's touch from a cross into the box sat up nicely for Salmon who then rifled a volley straight over the keeper's head.

Davis and Vilau picked up the next two goals before Estrada scored the pick of the bunch. A poor clearance from the Topper defender fell to the feet of Estrada 35 yards out from goal. After taking a couple of touches infield, Estrada then clipped a perfectly weighted ball over the keeper and into the top corner for goal number 13.

Mesa completed her hattrick on 68 minutes after heading in a Fernandez cross. Kristina Decker picked up two of the final three goals sandwiched either side of a Vilau finish to complete the rout.

Salmon finished the game with five goals and Mesa three of her own. Davis, Vilau, & Decker all recorded a brace of goals themselves. Galekhutle had the hattrick of assists with Estrada, Fernandez, & Romines picking up two.

The Crusaders defense was in particularly fine form themselves as they didn't allow a single shot in the whole game, let alone a shot on goal. Nerea Pallas Padilla and Marie Reinwald picked up the clean sheet for the Crusaders with neither keeper having to make a save.
