SHREVEPORT, La. – The William Carey Men's Soccer Team got their 2024 campaign underway, drawing to a 4-4 tie against RV LSU-Shreveport, Thursday afternoon at the Swamp.
The Pilots netted the first goal of the contest in the 10
th minute but Carey evened things up with a goal from
Kolby Godbolt in the 17
th minute. LSUS wasted no time in retaking the lead 2-1 in 20
th minute. However, just like before the Crusaders answered with a goal from
Oscar Vallejo six minutes later.
Things slowed down a bit over the final minutes of the half but in the 42
nd minute
Giovanni Kachan De Freitas Soares would put Carey up 3-2 heading into the break.
Less than two minutes into the second half the Pilots would find the back of the net to even things up. The match would remain tied until the 60
th minute when
Caoimhin McConnell would connect with
Teddy Miranda to put the Crusaders back in front 4-3. Carey would maintain the one goal lead until the 77
th minute as the Pilots were able to net the equalizer.
WCU is back in action Sunday, August 18, as they take on Xavier University of Louisiana in their home opener. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm at Danny Owens Field.
