Box Score NEW ORLEANS, La. – The William Carey Men's Tennis Team snapped a 39 match home winning streak with a 4-3 victory over #10 Xavier University Saturday afternoon.
The Gold Rush started off taking the doubles point and would take a 2-0 lead with a win at #1 singles.
Matt Shearer would get Carey on the board with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 win at #2 doubles and
Noah Rockstroh would tie the match the match with a 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) win at #3 singles.
XULA would retake the lead with a win at #5 singles but
Phil Louis Steinbichler kept the Crusaders alive with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) win at #6 singles. The match would come down to
Antoine Audrain at #4 singles. Audrain would take the first set 7-6 (7-3) but drop the second set 1-6. With the match on the line Audrain would seal the victory with a 6-3 win in the third set.
Carey is back in action Wednesday, April 24, as they head to Montgomery, Ala. to take part in the SSAC Championship.
