Lady Crusaders Season Comes to an End

CAMPBELLSVILE, Ky. – The William Carey Women's Basketball Team season came to an end, as they fell to Campbellsville 82-73 Saturday afternoon in the 2nd round of the NAIA Women's Basketball Championship.

"We played our hearts out today," said Head Coach Tracy English. "Just came up a little short in the end. Proud of our kids. We stood toe to toe with the number 3 team in the country."

The Lady Crusaders found themselves trailing for the majority of the game, going into halftime down 38-30.  The Tigers would go on to extend their by as 17 points midway through the third however the Lady Crusaders halted the run and closed the quarter on a 16-2 run to get within three at 56-53.

Carey would tie the game to open the fourth on a Lauren Rowley three pointer but Campbellsville would go on to pull away again, taking a 68-58 lead with just under six minutes remaining.  Carey would not go down without a fight and once again battled their way back behind a 10-0 run to tie the game at 68 with three minutes to play.  But Campbellsville however would go on to take the lead for good on a layup by Kayla Luebbe.

Lauren led the offense, as she tied a career high in points with 28 with Rose Warren and Leah Sutton each finishing with 12 points.

Carey finishes the season with an overall record 22-5.

"It's been a special year," said English. "We won a regular season championship and played into the 2nd round of the National Tournament. I can't be prouder of this close group of ladies."
