LOUISVILLE, Ky. The William Carey Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams returned to action Saturday in the Louisville Classic with the women tallying 185 points to finish in sixth place while the men accumulating 67 points to finish in first place.

"I was really proud of the team today," said
Cooper Herrington. "We had a couple of people have really great days and step up for us. Plus, anytime you have a team win a race that always makes the drive home more exciting. This was a great dress rehearsal where we could try a few things, take some risks, and identify what we want to drill down on in the weeks ahead. I cannot wait to get back to work and see what else we can do this season."

NCAA Division II Ursuline College took the top spot on the women's side with 79 points, 25 points ahead of NCAA Division I opponent Point Park University. The top five was rounded out by NAIA schools Indiana East, Shawnee State, and Rio Grande.

For the women in the 5K Silver event,
Blanca Conesa paced the Lady Crusaders with a fourth-place finish with a time of 19:10.
Isabelle Wheeler came in with a time of 19:48 finishing just outside the top ten in eleventh place. Crossing the finish next for Carey was
Virginia Tirado, finishing in 27
th place with a time of 20:25 with
Hannah Mitchell coming in with a time of 21:14. Rounding out things for WCU was
Aurora Latimer and
Maria Simancas who finished with a time of 22:59 and 23:30 respectively.

For the men in the 8K Silver race, Carey finished 17 points ahead NCAA Division II opponent Indianapolis University. Point Park, Vincennes, and Indiana Kokomo rounded out the top five.

Gift Mashilo led the Crusaders with a time of 26:25 to finish in eighth place.
Nathan Sury was next to cross the finish line in thirteenth place with a time of 26:28 with
Matthew McGuire crossing in 21
st place with a time of 27:03.
Gavin Wheat finished just behind McGuire in 24
th place while
Luke Skinner posted a time of 27:34 to finish in 38
th place. Rounding out the squad was Josiah Nobles,
Owen Jensen, and
Julius Giller who posted times of 28:31, 28:36, and 30:06, respectively.

Both squads are back in action Friday, October 25, as they head to Athens, Tenn. to take part in the NAIA Appalachian Challenge, hosted by Tennessee Wesleyan University.
