Lady Crusaders Defeat ABAC

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Lady Crusader offensive weapons were on full display this evening as they beat Abraham Baldwin 26-0, two shy of an NAIA record for goals in a game.

An offensive onslaught is the best way to describe the first half and that's putting it lightly. The Lady Crusaders were 14 goals up by the half time whistle and it could've been a lot worse. Carey totaled 33 shots in the first half, with 25 of those being in goal. Abraham Baldwin goalkeeper Seline Flores picked up 11 saves, helping keep the scoreline down as much as she could

Carey put themselves up 6 goals up within the first 10 minutes. Karen Vilau & Alyssia Davis had both bagged themselves a brace with Kokona Nishikawa & Christina Salmon also getting in on the fun. Salmon also managed to get herself a hattrick of assists in the process.

Salmon completed her hattrick and added her fourth either side of a Zalma Torres strike to put the Lady Crusaders up 9-0 in two minutes and add 3 goals in the space of 2 minutes.

The introduction of Kristina Decker & Valeria Barajas provided an added spark for the offense as they contributed to four of the next five goals. Three of which saw them both combine to score. Barajas got herself a hattrick in the space of five minutes after her introduction, Decker assisting her on two of them. Decker would also get herself on the scoresheet from a Barajas assist. Virginia Mesa would add one of her own unassisted as she tackled the Filly defender and rifled a shot across goal and into the far corner.

Carey continued their goalscoring clinic in the second half. Six goals in the first 15 minutes put the Lady Crusaders even further out of reach. Salmon had a hand in five of those goals with three goals and two assists. Salmon earned her double hattrick and took her assist tally up to 5 for the game. Zalma and Decker got themselves two of the six and put them each on two goals for the night. Vale would claim the last one which put her on four.

The final 30 minutes saw six more goals and Mesa contributed five of them. Decker got her third goal, sealing her hattrick, before Mesa took over. Mesa finished off four of them herself, taking her tally to five for the night and added an assist for Lesley Vasquez. Nishikawa also got herself a hattrick of assists in the process.

The Lady Crusaders are back in action on Thursday, October 24th as they travel to Mobile to see out their regular season. That game is set to get underway at 5 PM.
