Lady Crusaders Defeat Middle Georgia in SSAC Action

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – After a week off, the William Carey Volleyball Team returned to the court with a straight sets victory over Middle Georgia State Friday night at the Ben Waddle Complex.

Things were close at the start of the first set with WCU holding a slim lead over the Knights for the majority of the set.  With Carey leading 19-17, the Lady Crusaders rallied with four straight points to pull away, going on to take the set 25-19.

Carey got off to a hot start in the second set, racing out a 10-3 advantage and never looked back, taking the set 25-12.  The momentum carried over into the third set for WCU, as they jumped out again to a 10-3 lead.

From there the Lady Crusaders maintained a comfortable lead but the Knights battled back to cut the deficit to 19-16.  However, MGA could get no closer, as the Carey offense shut down the threat with six straight points to seal the victory.

Elaina Anderson led the attack finishing with 14 kills with Rachel Stegall coming in with 11 kills.  Lia Romas Bonilla finished with 20 assist while Kacey Lear had 11 digs.

Carey is back in action tomorrow as they take Brewton-Parker in SSAC action.  First serve is slated for 1:00 pm at the Ben Waddle Complex.
