CLINTON, Miss. – The William Carey Women's Cross Country Team got their 2023 season underway Friday evening, tallying 126 points to finish in fifth place at The Opener, hosted by Mississippi College.

Isabelle Wheeler led the Lady Crusaders in the 5K event placing 11^th in a time of 19:00.  Blanca Conesa was next in a time of 19:42 to finish in 20^th place while Sarah Olamide finished in 34^th with a time of 20:36.

Newcomer Hannah Mitchell finished in 38^th with a time of 20:45with Paige Anderson coming in 50^th with a time of 21:39.  Rounding out WCU was Maria Simancas who finished with a time of 24:29.

Next up for Carey will be the Southern Showcase on Friday, September 15, hosted by Jacksonville State in Huntsville, Ala.
