Men's & Women's Tennis Wrap up Regular Season Play

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The WCU Men's and Women's Tennis Teams wrapped up the regular season portion of their schedule over the weekend with the guys going 3-0 and the women going 1-2.
 
For the guys, they got things started with a thrilling 4-3 victory over #9 Middle Georgia State on Friday.  The match got started with the Knights taking a 1-0 lead winning the doubles point.  MGA made it 2-0 winning the point at # 1 singles.  The Crusaders got on the board with Thomas Drapeau taking the point at #2 singles 6-4 & 7-6.
 
Matt Shearer evened things up with a 4-6, 6-1, & 6-2 win at #5 singles and Anton Magnusson put Carey in front 3-2 with a 6-4 & 6-2 win #4 singles.  Middle Georgia kept the match alive winning the point at #3 singles.  The match would come down Jean Nicolas Leblanc and Icham Tidjine at #6 singles and Leblanc wasted no time in securing the win with a 6-3 & 7-6 win.
 
The other two matches the guys had over the weekend were against Blue Mountain Christian and Florida National with Carey leaving little to doubt taking both matches 4-0.  With the wins the guys clinched the number one seed in the upcoming SSAC Men's Tennis Championship.
 
The ladies started off the weekend falling 4-1 #7 Middle Georgia State.  On Saturday, Carey faced off against Blue Mountain Christian with the Toppers opening up play, taking the point at doubles.  Jordan Ortega Mendez evened the match with a 6-0 & 6-4 win at #1 singles. 
 
Malak Abarkane would win 6-2, 6-7, & 6-0 at #5 singles and Sunny Logan would take the point at #6 singles 6-2 & 6-2 but BMCU would take the points at #2 singles and #4 singles to even the match.  The match would be decided between Tiffany Chang and Kristina Kozakova.  Chang would take the first set but would drop the next two giving Blue Mountain Christian the 4-3 win.
 
In the final match of the weekend, the Carey left little to doubt, defeating Florida National 4-0.  The Lady Crusaders will be the number four seed in the upcoming SSAC Women's Tennis Championship.
