Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lady Crusaders Advance to Semi-Finals of SSAC Championship

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The William Carey Women's Basketball team advanced to semi-finals of the SSAC Championship, presented by Newks Eatery, with a 63-56 victory over Mobile Tuesday morning at the Multi-Plex at Cramton Bowl.

The Lady Crusaders found themselves trailing most of the first quarter but a Madelyn Ladner layup with under a minute to play would give Carey their first lead of the game before taking a 16-12 lead into the second quarter.

Mobile wasted no time in the second quarter retaking the lead just minutes in.  From there things went back and forth but with the score tied at 29 all with two minutes play the Rams closed the quarter with five straight points to take a 34-29 lead into the break.

Coming out of the break, UM maintained a five point lead on multiple occasions, but with under a minute to play a Kolten Blakeney two point basket would give WCU a 45-44 lead before heading in the fourth with a 47-44 lead.

Heading into the final quarter of play things remained close.  With Carey leading 53-50 with seven minutes to play, McKinley Seal scored WCU's next eight points, to keep the game out of reach.  The Carey defense also stepped up big holding the Ram offense scoreless over the final three minutes of the game.

McKinley Seal led four players in double figures, finishing with 17 points and seven rebounds with Kolten Blakeney adding 15 points and seven rebounds.  Lauren Rowley finished with 13 points and eight rebounds while Madelyn Ladner had 10 points.

The Lady Crusaders are back in action tomorrow as they take on the winner out of Life University and Loyola University.  Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm at the Multi-Plex at Cramton Bowl.
