MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The William Carey Women's Basketball team season came to an end, as they fall to Loyola University 59-48 Friday afternoon in semi-final action of the SSAC Championship.
The Lady Crusaders got off to a dreadful start, finding themselves trailing 15-7, after the first quarter of play. Loyola stretched their lead to 12 a few minutes into the second but a
Gabrielle Gallup layup with just under four minutes left, sparked an 11-0 run to cut the deficit to 19-18. Over the final minute, the Wolfpack held WCU to just two points to take a 24-20 lead into the break.
Carey came out of the break and clamped down on the high powered Wolfpack offense and slowly chipped away and with just over four minutes remaining in the quarter, a
Rebekah Engle three pointer gave WCU their first lead of the game at 27-26. Carey trailed by one going into the fourth quarter and was down just two points with four minutes to play but a 8-2 run by Loyola was too much for Carey to overcome.
WCU ends their season with an 18-9 overall record and an 11-7 mark in conference play.
