San Antonio, Texas – The William Carey Women's Basketball went 2-0 in the OLLU Halo Classic, defeating Our Lady of the Lake 66-50 on Friday and Texas Wesleyan 67-52 Saturday afternoon.
Against OLLU, the Lady Crusaders got off to shaky start, finding themselves down 23-13 after the first quarter of play. However, Carey found their footing in the second quarter, opening on a 10-1 to cut the deficit to one point with six minutes left in the quarter. From there both teams went back and forth eventually heading into the break tied at 31 all.
Coming out the break, the WCU offense caught fire, outscoring the Saints 19-8 to take a 50-39 lead into the fourth. The Lady Crusaders kept up the attack in the final quarter of play stretching their lead to as many as 23 points on their way to victory.
Shaneal Corpuz led the offense finishing with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
In their final game on Saturday against Texas Wesleyan, both teams went back and forth at start until WCU closed the first quarter on a 10-2 run to take a 22-11 lead into the second quarter. The Lady Crusaders continued to fire on all cylinders in the second stretching their lead to 41-19 at the break.
It was much of the same coming out the break, as the Carey offense stayed hot, pushing their lead to as many as 27 points and never looked back.
Rose Warren led for Carey players in double figures finishing with 16 points.
Lauren Rowley added 14 points with
Madelyn Ladner having 12 points.
Shaneal Corpuz finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
WCU is back in action Saturday, November 18, as they open up SSAC play against Thomas University. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00 pm at Clinton Gym.
