HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey Women's Basketball team opened up SSAC play with a 87-55 victory over Thomas University Saturday afternoon at Clinton Gym.
The first few minutes of play saw both team trade shots until Carey slowly started to pull away to a 13-5 advantage with six minutes left in the first. From there WCU would stretch their lead to nine on multiple occasions but the Nighthawks managed to cut the deficit to 22-18 heading into the second quarter.
The Lady Crusaders got out quickly to start the second, as
Shaneal Corpuz and
Lauren Rowley combined for nine points to push their lead to 31-21 just two minutes into the quarter. From there Carey would go on to take a 47-34 lead into the break.
The WCU offense continued their hot shooting in the second half pulling away on 43% shooting from the floor with the defense holding Thomas to just 26% shooting.
Shaneal Corpuz poured in a season high 29 points while pulling down 11 rebounds.
Lauren Rowley finished with 25 points while
Rose Warren added 10 points.
WCU is back in action Tuesday, November 28, as they travel to Mobile, Ala. to take on the University of Mobile in SSAC action. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 pm.
