HATTIESBURG, Miss. - #1 William Carey Women's Soccer outlasted (RV) Life University, defeating the Running Eagles 3-2 Thursday night, at
Danny Owens Field.
Â
Christina Salmon started the scoring for Carey in the 16
th minute, as
Julia Herbst played the ball to her at the top of the box and after one touch fired into the bottom right corner of the goal. Â
Chloe Strickland would make it 2-0 WCU moments later as she hit a 25-yard laser beam into the upper right corner.
Â
WCU would carry the 2-0 lead into the second half until the 69
th minute when Sacha Millward netted a goal to put Life on the board. The Lady Crusaders would add an insurance goal in the 77
th minute off the foot
Fernanda Pena Nieto.Â
Â
That goal would prove to be the difference as the Running Eagles would capitalize on a Carey miscue to net a goal in the 88
th minute. That would be as close as Life would get as the WCU defense did not allow a shot over the final two minutes.
Â
Carey is back in action Saturday, as they take on Dalton State College in SSAC action. Kick-off is slated for 1:30 pm at
Danny Owens Field.
