Lady Crusaders Hold on to Defeat Stillman

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The William Carey Women's Basketball team held off a late rally by Stillman College to defeat the Tigers 62-59 Thursday evening.

The Crusaders got off to a hot start, building a 21-10 lead with two minutes left in the second quarter.  However, Stillman closed the quarter on an 8-3 run to get within six heading into the break.

Coming out of the break, things remained close in the third quarter.  The Tigers managed to get within two points on multiple occasions but McKinley Seal gave Carey a 39-34 lead heading into the fourth with a three point basket to end the quarter.

Heading into the final quarter of play it looked as if the Lady Crusaders were in complete control taking a 52-42 lead with minutes to play.  However, just like in the second quarter, the Tigers mounted a comeback, cutting the lead to 57-55 with just over a minute to play.  The WCU defense settled back in and halted the run with the offense going 5-7 from the free throw line to hold on for the win.

Lauren Rowley led the way finishing with 18 points.  Kolten Blakeney added 16 points with McKinley Seal finishing with nine points and nine rebounds.

WCU is back in action Saturday, January 21, as they travel to Talladega, Ala. to take on Talladega College in SSAC play.  Tip-off is slated for 12:00 pm.
