Lady Crusaders Take Down Southeastern (Fla.) & Coastal Georgia

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The William Carey Volleyball Team picked up two more wins with straight set victories over Southeastern (Fla.) and Coastal Georgia Friday afternoon in the Faulkner Invitational.

In their first match of the day against SEU, things were close in the first set, as both teams took turns with the lead.  With the score tied at 14 all, it looked as if the Lady Crusaders were taking control of the set, building a 21-16 lead.  However, the Fire went on an 8-0 run to take a 24-21 lead.  Carey regrouped, closing the set with five straight points to take the set 26-24.

In the second set, things were tight at the start, until WCU slowly built 14-7 lead.  But just like in the first SEU answered with six straight points to get within one point.  From there both teams went back and forth with the Lady Crusaders eventually closing the set on a 4-1 run to take a 2-0 lead.  The third set was just as tight until WCU used a 9-3 run and never looked back taking the set 25-15 and the match.

Against the Mariners, the Lady Crusaders got off to a hot start, jumping out an 11-2 advantage before going on to take the set 25-17.  Things were much closer in the second set.  With Carey holding a 15-14 lead, WCU built a 20-15 advantage and held off a let surge to take the set 25-22 and a 2-0 lead.

Things went back in the third set until the Lady Crusaders went on a 10-1 run to take a commanding 21-10 lead and never looked back taking the set 25-11 and the match.

WCU is back in action tomorrow, as they wrap up play in the Faulkner Invitational with matches against Dillard University at 9:00 am and Reinhardt University at 1:00 pm.
