Lady Crusaders Improve to 8-0

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The William Carey Volleyball improved to 8-0 on the season with a five set victory over Dillard and four set win over Reinhardt University, Saturday afternoon at the Faulkner Invitational.

The Lady Crusaders got off to rocky start against Dillard, as they were playing from behind for the majority of the first set.  WCU would get within one point on a few occasions and make a late run but the Blue Devils held strong taking the first set.

Carey regained their focus in the second set slowly building an 18-13 advantage before going on to take the set 25-22.  The Lady Crusaders kept the momentum going in the third set racing out to an 18-9 lead and never looked back taking the set 25-13 and a 2-1 lead.

In the fourth set, things went back and forth until DU used a 6-0 run to take a 14-9 lead before taking the set 25-14 to force the deciding fifth set.  Dillard started the fifth set with three straight points but Carey answered with four straight.  From there the Lady Crusaders took control building a 13-8 lead before taking the set and the match.

After a back and forth start, WCU went on a 10-0 run, to take a commanding 17-7 lead before taking the set 25-14.  The Lady crusaders came out in the second set opening with four straight points but Reinhardt settled in eventually taking a 6-5 lead.  From there both teams took turns with the lead.  With the score tied at 24 all, the Eagles closed the set on a 3-1 run to even the match.

Things remained tight in the third set, until WCU built a 19-13 lead on a 9-5 run before going on to take the set 25-20.  The Lady Crusaders wasted no time in the fourth set racing out to a 20-12 lead and never looked back taking the set 25-14 and the match.

Carey is back in action Friday, September 2 as they travel to Temple Terrace, Fla. to take part in the Florida College Invitational.
