Lady Crusaders go 2-0 on Day Two of Vette City Classic

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The William Carey volleyball team defeated Reinhardt University in straight sets and Brescia University 3-1 to finish play in the Vette City Classic 4-0.

Against the Eagles, the Lady Crusaders had their hands full in the first set, as both teams took turns with the lead a handful of times.  With the score tied at 25 all, Mia Hague came up big with back to back kills to give Carey a 1-0 lead.

It was much of the same in the second set, as both teams went back and forth, until WCU went on a 5-0 run to take the lead before taking the set 25-18.  The Lady Crusaders came out quickly in the third set building an 8-3 advantage to start the set.  Reinhardt settled in, and using a 9-0 run took the lead.  From there the teams traded shots until a couple of errors by the Eagles proved costly giving Carey the straight sets victory.

In their second match of day against the Bearcats, WCU found themselves in a mirror image of their match against Reinhardt.  The Lady Crusaders slowly pulled away to a 20-14 advantage only to see Brescia fight their way back to a 24-23 deficit but a service error on the next play would give Carey the 25-23 victory.

The second set was just like the first, as the Lady Crusaders slowly built a lead only to see the Bearcats once again battle back to a 24-23 lead. Carey regrouped, as Rachel Hartmann and Elaina Anderson came through a block to give Carey the set and a 2-0 lead

The Lady Crusaders got off to a rough start in the third set falling behind 18-12.  However, WCU settled down, battling back to take a 24-23 lead but could not hold onto the lead sending the match into a fourth set.

The Lady Crusaders wasted no time in the fourth set, building a 18-10 advantage and never looked back taking the set 25-15 and the match.

WCU is back in action August 26-27, as they head to Montgomery, Ala. to take part in the Faulkner Invitational.
