HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey Women's Basketball team overcame an early first half deficit to defeat Blue Mountain Christian University 79-66, Saturday afternoon at Clinton Gym.
After a back and forth start, BMCU closed the first quarter with four straight points to take a 21-16 lead. The Toppers would go on to build a 35-26 lead with four minutes left in the half but WCU would close on a 10-5 run to trim the lead to 40-36.
Trailing Blue Mountain, 52-48 with three minutes left in the third quarter, WCU went on a 22-6 run over the next nine minutes to open a 12 point lead and never looked back.
Rebekah Engle led the way for WCU finishing with 28 points and seven rebounds.
Lauren Rowley added 18 points with
Kolten Blakeney finishing with 14 points and nine rebounds.
WCU is back in action Saturday, December 10, as they take on Stillman College in SSAC play. Tip-off is slated for 12:00 pm at Clinton Gym.
