HILO, Hawaii. – The William Carey Women's Basketball team wrapped up play in the Big Island Classic, pulling away late, to defeat Valley City State University 63-54 Sunday morning.
The Lady Crusaders opened the game, taking a 14-10 lead into the second quarter but the Vikings outscored Carey 17-13 in the second to even things at 27 heading into the break.
Coming out of the break both teams were locked in until the three minute mark in the third quarter. With the score tied at 36 all, the Lady Crusaders closed the quarter on a 7-2 run to take a five point lead into the final quarter. From there Carey stretched their lead to as many as 11 points and never looked back.
Lauren Rowley picked up where she left off yesterday finishing with 24 points.
McKinley Seal finished two assists short of a triple double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists.
Kolten Blakeney added 10 points.
WCU will back in action after the New Year, as they travel to Marietta, Ga. on January 5, to take on Life University. Tip-off is slated for 4:30 pm.
