TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – (
RESULTS) In a field of 326 runners,
Lina May capped off her stellar year Friday morning, posting a time of 16:50 in the NAIA Cross Country Championship, to capture the first ever NAIA Women's Cross Country Individual title by eight seconds and earn NAIA All-American honors.
As a team, WCU tallied 466 points for a 17
th place finish with a time of 1:33:53 in the 5K race, for their best finish at nationals.
Blanca Conesa was next to cross the finish line for Carey in 68
th place with a time of 18:34. Coming in 109
th was
Sarah Olamide with a time of 18:58 with
Paige Anderson posting a time of 19:38 to finish 194
th. Round out the squad were
Isabelle Wheeler placing 228
th with a time of 19:51 and
Olivia Pitts with a time of 20:02 to finish 241
st.
"So proud of these ladies, I don't even have the words," said Head Coach
Blake Hegstrom. "Lina ran with such guts and purpose! She committed to her race and never looked back. So proud for her! It was a total team effort all season to accomplish everything this group has done. Glory to God in it all and as a coach blessed to tag along for a great season."
