Lauren is entering her 3rd year as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance. She previously spent eight seasons as the Assistant Volleyball Coach at William Carey.

Broom, a Mandeville, Louisiana native, first arrived in Hattiesburg in 2007 to play volleyball at the University of Southern Mississippi. During her playing career for the Lady Eagles, she was named a team captain for the 2009 and 2010 seasons. She was also a part of the 2009 Conference USA Championship team, something that hasn’t happened at USM since. Upon finishing her career, Broom stayed on the staff at USM as a student coach in 2012.

Following her days at USM, Broom moved to Petal Primary as a teacher. During that time, she continued to coach volleyball for local club teams. In 2016, Broom joined the staff at William Carey for the inaugural volleyball season as an assistant, where she spent the next eight seasons. In 2020, Broom helped lead the Lady Crusaders to the school’s first ever appearance in the NAIA National Tournament. The following year, Carey Volleyball won the school’s first ever SSAC Regular Season Championship.

As an assistant, Broom coached nine SSAC First-Team All-Conference players, nine SSAC Second-Team All-Conference players, two SSAC Freshmen of the Year, and one SSAC Setter of the Year. In 2018, Broom helped lead William Carey in the school’s first ever Beach Volleyball season and finished with a 6-2 record.

Broom earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 2012 from Southern Miss and her Master of Education in Elementary Education in 2014, also from USM. In 2016, she received her Specialist Degree in Instructional Leadership from William Carey. In addition to her role in the athletic department, Broom is also an instructor in the William Carey School of Education.
