LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – No. 9 William Carey battled until the final whistle but came up just short in a hard-fought 1-0 setback against No. 22 Georgia Gwinnett on Sunday afternoon.
The Grizzlies scored the match's lone goal in the 10th minute when Frida Bang found Barbora Kadlecova inside the box for an early 1-0 advantage.
Despite the early deficit, the Lady Crusaders refused to back down. William Carey controlled much of the attacking action throughout the afternoon, firing eight shots on target and earning four corner kicks while continually testing the Georgia Gwinnett back line. The Crusaders generated several dangerous chances in search of the equalizer, but the Grizzlies were able to hold on to preserve the shutout.
William Carey returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 3, when the Lady Crusaders welcome LSU Alexandria to Danny Owens Field for their home opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
