HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey men's soccer team left little doubt Saturday, cruising to a 4-0 victory over Louisiana Christian in non-conference action.
The Crusaders wasted no time taking control, opening the scoring just four minutes into the match.
Joshua Salas intercepted an errant pass just inside the penalty area and quickly played the ball ahead to a wide-open
Jean Danitanga, who calmly slotted his shot into the bottom-right corner to give Carey an early 1-0 lead.
After a brief lull in the attack, the Crusaders struck again in the 21st minute. Another defensive interception led to Salas distributing the ball wide to Soulemane Balde, who found Danitanga for a clever back-flick finish that doubled the advantage. Less than two minutes later, the duo connected once more as Balde delivered a pinpoint cross that Danitanga headed home to complete a first-half hat trick and extend the lead to 3-0.
William Carey controlled the tempo throughout the second half, limiting the Wildcats to only a couple of shots on goal while creating a handful of opportunities of their own. The Crusaders added the final tally in the 82nd minute when
Fabian Arroyo curled a corner kick into the box, where
Luka Brandic rose above the defense and headed the ball into the net.
The Crusaders return to action on Wednesday, Aug. 26, when they host Florida National. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Danny Owens Field.
