MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The WCU women's tennis team took care of business at the SSAC Round-Up, sweeping all three matches by identical 7–0 scores with wins over Abraham Baldwin (ABAC), UT-Southern, and Blue Mountain Christian.
On Thursday against ABAC, Carey opened with three straight wins in doubles before
Tiffany Chang,
Isabella Lechuga, and
Li-Hsien Lin each recorded 6–0, 6–0 victories in singles.
Malak Abarkane and
Victoria Vieten extended the lead with 6–0, 6–1 wins, and
JiAn Kang closed out the sweep with a 6–1, 6–1 victory.
On Friday, UT-Southern managed to win the match at No. 1 doubles, but Carey quickly secured the doubles point with a 6–0 win at No. 3 and a 6–1 victory at No. 2.
The Lady Crusaders rolled from there, as Vieten handled business at No. 1 singles with a 6–0, 6–1 win. Kang, Lechuga, and Lin followed with identical 6–1, 6–0 victories to secure the match. Carey completed its second sweep of the round-up with Chang winning 6–1, 6–1 at No. 5 singles and Abarkane battling to a 7–6 first-set win before cruising to a 6–0 victory in the second.
The weekend concluded with more of the same against Blue Mountain Christian. Carey jumped out to an early lead by sweeping doubles. Vieten and Lechuga rolled to 6–0, 6–0 wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, while Chang and Lin each earned 6–0, 6–1 victories. Kang wrapped up the match with a 6–2, 6–1 win at No. 2 singles, and Abarkane finished the sweep with a 6–3, 6–1 decision at No. 4.
Carey returns to action on April 1, when they host SSAC foe Loyola University.
