Lady Crusaders Overpower Mobile in 87–54 Win

MOBILE, Ala. – The Lady Crusaders brought the intensity from the opening tip, surging to a commanding 87–54 win over Mobile on Saturday afternoon.

William Carey set the tone from the opening tip, racing out to a commanding 10–0 lead before Mobile managed to get on the board. Addyson Sherer ignited the early surge with a three-pointer at the 7:59 mark, followed by baskets from Jenna Garriga and Meyah Doyle as the Lady Crusaders controlled both the paint and the tempo.

Mobile finally scored at 5:33, but Carey continued to answer with steady offensive pressure. Sherer and Leah Sutton kept the momentum rolling, and Brooklyn Cuevas buried a three to extend the advantage to 21–6 with two minutes left in the quarter. The Lady Crusaders carried a 23–11 lead into the second period.

Carey's intensity only increased as the defense tightened and the offense kept firing. Alyssa Hillard opened the quarter with back-to-back jumpers, and an Anna Rose Engle layup pushed the lead to 33–14 with just under six minutes remaining. Sherer added a three and a layup to stretch the advantage to 24 points, and although Mobile made a small push late,
Carey entered halftime firmly in control, up 45–24.

The Lady Crusaders wasted no time after the break, with Cuevas scoring a quick layup and Madelyn Ladner knocking down a jumper to make it 49–24. Engle and Maddie Devall added baskets as Carey continued generating high-percentage looks.

Sutton and Hillard added buckets midway through the third, and Cuevas drilled another three at the 2:55 mark to push the margin to 60–31. Free throws from Ladner and Cuevas closed out the quarter, sending Carey into the fourth with a 65–40 lead.

Sherer opened the final period with her fourth three of the night, and Doyle added a transition layup to stretch the lead back to 30. Cuevas connected from deep once again at 8:27, pushing the advantage to 74–40 as William Carey cruised the rest of the way, securing an emphatic 87–54 victory.

Sherer led all scorers with 22 points, while Cuevas followed with 15.

The Lady Crusaders return to action on Thursday, February 19, when they host UT-Southern in SSAC play. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at Clinton Gym.
