HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey University men's soccer team earned a 4-0 Southern States Athletic Conference victory over Point University on Thursday night at Danny Owens Field.
The Crusaders controlled play from the opening whistle, outshooting the Skyhawks 10-1 in the first half and placing four shots on target. Despite the offensive pressure, Carey carried a slim 1-0 advantage into halftime.
Jean Danitanga broke the deadlock in the 40th minute, capitalizing on a defensive miscue by Point. The Carey forward raced in one-on-one with the goalkeeper and buried his finish into the top corner to put the Crusaders in front before the break.
William Carey continued to dictate the tempo in the second half and quickly added to its lead.
Daniel Mulero delivered a corner kick that found
Kenson Pierre in the 49th minute, extending the advantage to 2-0.
Mulero added his second assist of the night in the 56th minute after his shot was saved, but the rebound fell directly to
Enzo Galli, who tapped home the finish to make it 3-0.
After contributing to the last two goals, Mulero put the finishing touch on the victory in the 69th minute, bending a superb free kick into the net for the match's final goal and a 4-0 Carey lead.
The Crusaders return to action on Thursday, Oct. 15, when they travel to face UT Southern in an SSAC matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
