HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Lady Crusaders took care of business Thursday night, cruising to a straight-set victory over Wesleyan College.
The Lady Crusaders wasted little time taking command in the first set, building an 8-3 advantage before breaking things open with a decisive 10-1 run. Five kills and two service aces highlighted the stretch as Carey cruised to a 25-10 victory.
The second set followed a similar pattern. After Wesleyan scored the opening point, the Lady Crusaders responded immediately with four kills and four aces to grab an 8-1 lead. Carey continued to apply pressure, putting together a 10-0 run fueled by five kills, three aces, and a block to push its advantage to 18-5. The Crusaders never looked back, finishing the set on a 7-2 run to secure a 25-7 win and take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
Looking to close out the sweep, Carey once again seized control early in the third set. The Lady Crusaders raced out to a 9-2 lead and later extended their advantage to 17-7 as Wesleyan struggled to find an answer. Carey remained firmly in control down the stretch, closing out the set 25-12 to complete the sweep.
William Carey returns to SSAC action Friday when it hosts Brewton-Parker. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m. at the Ben Waddle Sports Facility.
